Local Tour # 4
Lawrence, Pringles Way, Grafton, the Orara Way, Sealy Lookout and home. Approx. 350kms.
This is a nice easy day out getting a few k’s under your belt, with good roads and nice scenery.
Ride through Maclean, do whatever part of Woodford Island you like, but end up at the Lawrence Ferry. Take the ferry ride to the T intersection in Lawrence, turn right and follow Pringle's Way, and turn left to the Summerland Way [B91]. This will take you south into Grafton via Junction Hill. Grafton was the first city on the North Coast. There are a number of things to see here; the river, the Jacaranda Trees in Spring. Quite a few events are hosted here including the bridge to bridge race.
Ride across the bridge to South Grafton, then onto the Armidale Road. On the outskirts of South Grafton, turn left onto the Orara Way. Ride to Glenreagh. There is a good pub there called “The Golden Dog”. It’s a nice place to stop for lunch. Continue onto to Nana Glen. Turn left just as you enter Nana Glen into Grafton St., this becomes Bucca Road. Note: The speed limit for this road is 80kms. Continue through the hills and countryside until you turn right onto Central Bucca Road. This is a lovely treed road as you get into the hills, but it is narrow. Be careful. Then turn right again to Sealy Lookout Drive. It’s a great view of the Pacific Ocean and Coffs Harbour. You can go back along Sealy lookout Drive, and turn right down to the Pacific Hwy. [A1] and Coffs (nice twisty road down to the Hwy....be careful) or, turn left and retrace your ride back to Grafton.
Once in Grafton you can return to Squeakygate Retreat via the Pacific Hwy., or ride across the Grafton Bridge, turn Right at Villiers St., Left at Dobie St. and Right at Queen. This will bring you onto the Southgate Road back to Lawrence.
