Touring with Gibbo:
Local Tour # 5
Grafton, Tryingham, Dorrigo, Coff’s Harbour, Home.
A big day out with great riding. Approx. 400kms
Ride from Squeakygate Retreat to Grafton however you wish. You can go via the Pacific [A1] (boring and lots of roadwork), via Lawrence and Southgate Rd., or Lawrence, Pringles Way and the Summerland Way [B91].
From Grafton head up the Armidale Rd., through the twisties of the ranges to Tyringham. Tyringham is just short of 100kms from Grafton. The road surface is generally good, but can be cut up after heavy rain on the ranges. Turn left just past Tyringham onto the Tyringham Rd. It’s a lovely ride, just take it easy. Turn left at the T intersection and ride into Dorrigo, along Waterfall Way [B78] and perhaps stop for an early lunch in Dorrigo. The Heritage Hotel is recommended. Ride down Waterfall Way through Bellingen (a lovely little town, but very yuppie these days). Turn left onto the Pacific Hwy.[A1]. You have to suffer through Coffs, ugh… just past the Big Banana take the Bucca Central Road up the hill and turn left onto Sealy lookout Drive. The lookout is spectacular. Ride back down Sealy lookout Drive and turn left onto Bucca Central Road. When you get to Nana Glen turn right onto the Orara Way. There is a great pub in Glenreagh called “The Golden Dog”. Not a bad spot to stop and have a lemonade after all that riding. Continue on the Orara Way to Grafton. Once in Grafton, you can return to Squeakygate Retreat via the Pacific Hwy., or ride across the bridge, turn Right at Villiers St., Left at Dobie St. and Right at Queen. This will bring out you on the Southgate Road back to Lawrence.
